Once a year, in spring, before the first long stretch of hot weather. In long cooling season states, some homeowners book a second check in late summer. A yearly AC tune up catches weak capacitors, pitted contactors and clogged drain lines while they are still cheap fixes.
Why is there ice on my AC lines?
Ice forms when the indoor coil gets too cold, usually from low airflow (dirty filter, dirty coil, weak blower) or low refrigerant charge. Turn cooling off and run the fan to thaw it, then call us. Running a frozen system can damage the compressor.
Why does my AC keep tripping the breaker?
Common causes are a compressor struggling to start because of a weak capacitor, a shorted fan motor, a compressor with a winding shorted to ground, or loose and overheated wiring. Resetting the breaker over and over can make it worse. Leave it off and call us.
What should I do before the technician arrives?
Check that the thermostat is set to COOL and below room temperature, check the breaker and the outdoor disconnect, and look at the filter. If there is ice, turn cooling off and run the fan. If there is a burning smell, shut the breaker off and leave it off.
Why is water leaking from my indoor unit?
Most of the time it is a clogged condensate drain line, a cracked or rusted drain pan, or a frozen coil that is melting. Turn the system off to limit water damage and call us. We clear the line, check the pan and test the safety float switch.
